Scouts Root Out The Problem at Towneley

On Wednesday 2nd July, St. Andrew’s Scouts from Burnley shared the outdoor adventure at Towneley Park by helping pick some Himalayan Balsam which stops other plants from growing as well.

The activity was undertaken by the group to achieve their Environmental Partnership award and are undertaking the project for the next two weeks before coming back a few weeks later to see the impact they have made and continue their efforts.

All together, the 20 Scouts pulled up around 15,000 plants which should drastically help with the problems posed by Himalayan Balsam.
Speaking about the activity, one young person said, “I had a fantastic time and loved being outdoors and I wish we did more of these types of activities.”
